PERFECT DAY FOR RAMEN

To be clear: I’m writing this not because
I am in love with you
but because you had
a car and I love that in a man
because I failed my driver’s test twice and you were
the parking lot
movie set of me
to the throat of Lou Reed
one of five cassettes you had to choose from
after we finished you said:
“it’s weird, ’cause this song is about heroin”
my best friends were waiting
in the ramen place with the graffiti-printed
snapbacks
I wondered if they had seen the seatbelts
and thought Emma has been kidnapped
by a stranger she might actually get along with.

HE MAKES A HEART IN THE LATTE FOR EVERYONE

Latte art is propaganda
I’ve been deceived before and I’m telling you so
you won’t feel special again

You can’t give foam hearts to everyone
just to me on days
when you feel I’ve created an outfit with an
emotional arc
that expresses both my silly side
the fact that I am actually quite good at meeting
new plants
and my effervescence for matching just about
anything
to polka dots

I very rarely do drugs
but sometimes when I drink cold brew I jitter
enough
to get away with telling you anything

If there is something in your coffee
it is there for a reason
most likely because a man in a beanie
is on an ego trip
and has no more recyclable sleeves for you

He is tired of sending messages
on behalf of those using caffeine fluids
as an excuse for casualties.
