At church camp I wrote
I didn’t believe in god
on a piece of paper
& we all tossed our notes
to god into the fire.
Language just happened
right? When I called
the live poultry shop
the man picked up &
said something unintelligible.
I could hear the clucking
chickens. I thought
I’ll put that in my novel.
Maybe I should’ve wrote
it different. I read how
contingent statements
regarding the future
right now are neither
true or false. I told her
I thought it was strange
that the bar would play
the original “ignition”
& not the remix. It was the night
of the equinox. Whenever
someone tells me their
zodiac sign I always say
I knew it of course
you are it’s so obvious.
