The guards & bell hop smile at me in a way that says
We Are The Same

Ruby is fat & orange & needy
He only eats wet food and fresh filtered water
He gets a new dish for every meal
He watches me pat his food down with a fork to make it look more appetising

He follows me around the apartment
Throws his body on the ground
Begs me to rub his stomach
Sometimes I give in

He judges me
As I go through the fridge
Picking around the mould on their unopened berries
Rifling through the medicine cabinet
In the private bathroom of the 13 year old daughter
Using all her soaps & creams & scrubs

I try to imagine being a teen who owns anti-aging cream & facial bleach
I try to figure out the difference between being rich & being immortal & I give up
I lay under the tub faucet as the bath fills & feel like I’m fucking the house
I like cat sitting because I can tell the cat
I Love You without consequences
