FEBRUARY POEM ❋ Arielle Gavin
Your wedding invitation came today
sealed with a pretty rose
though you do not like pretty things
Like my bedroom,
which is all pink
which would make me suspicious if it wasn’t mine
I like how you wrote an essay about pink,
your least favourite colour
Too much theory is a justification of taste
Making laws out of whims
Art appears increasingly as a textbook exercise:
Demonstrate your understanding of the theorem
Represent it as a word problem
Show all work
Is the solution to language’s omissions
to be found in the language games of a few?
I’m not saying it can’t be this way
I’m saying I don’t want it to be
Rehash the old argument in a pockmarked jacket
A kind of bed jacket worn with Adidas
If you don’t know what I’m talking about,
if it is no longer early 2016
