Charlie Baylis

20 Nov Charlie Baylis

MOLLY

*AFTER PHOEBE POWER

In the photo they are holding hands
surprise, surprise
there are flowers spinning in his eyes
his heart has been stamped
by a huge black hoof, the weight of an ocean
lands on an irregular leg

she took him for a ride once
around the loch, wearing matching socks
he has the body for lift off
her hands hold the kettle that pours
steam into the growling river
in a hysterical swirl

happy like a mile long line of velvet
curling at each end, it seems these hands
were made for those hands
count the pennies on the frock
colour the beams bouncing up above
hair gel smooths back the slick wind
and the patterns will play on

Charlie Baylis lives in Spain. He reviews poetry for Stride. Charlie has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, the Forward Prize and for Queen´s Ferry Press´s Best Small Fictions. He has made the shortlist for the Bridport prize. He was (very briefly) a flash fiction editor for Litro. ´Elizabeth´ and his debut pamphlet is out now on Agave Press. He spends his spare time completely adrift of reality.
