SUPER NORMAL VISION ❋ Mallory Burnside-Holmes

“Jane Kerouac”

waiting. on the Right Male Gaze. they say it comes when you learn. to stop looking. I like to count when watching movies. how many times the Right Male Gaze sets upon the Woman without her knowing. that’s love. that’s Voyeurism. the problem is. I like looking at my feet. I raise my gaze when a man walks by. set it a little to the left of his eye line. it’s okay to look back. for a little while look back. then don’t look at them at all.

the problem is. I’m trying not to look. at the Gazes coming through the Café Window. am I Whimsical enough? waiting. the Woman in the Window is writing in a notebook: not sure of my own words. don’t look up. not sure of “my own”. I know how men have come to own. Jack Kerouac drove across America. found himself in every where. where did Sarah Paradise find her selves? which words does Jane Kerouac own?

she’s under attack on the sidewalk
she’s under attack in the mall
she’s under attack in her bedroom
she’s under attack on Instagram
she’s under attack in the shower
she’s under attack during the commercials
she’s under attack at the intersection
she’s under attack at work
she’s under attack eating a sandwich
she’s under attack in the movie trailers
she’s under attack in her hips
she’s under attack on twitter
she’s under attack singing along to the radio
she’s under attack over her body
she’s under attack in this poem
